I sometimes hear from people who are very interested in the frozen food line on Nutrisystem. After all, many of these foods are very appetizing with options like french toast, ice cream sundaes, and roast turkey with mashed potatoes. But, people sometimes have concerns as to whether or not there is a catch with this. Because the foods look so appetizing, people often wonder if they are as low in calories and as diet friendly as the non frozen foods. They are interested in trying out the frozen foods, but not if its going to affect their results.
I might hear a comment like: I am interested in the frozen foods on Nutrisystem, but Im afraid that they are going to be much higher in calories than the other items. Im afraid that its just unrealistic to think that an ice cream sundae is not going to wreck my diet.
Well, this is relatively easy to figure out. In the following article, Ill compare days worth of frozen meals on the select plan with non frozen meals from the basic plan and we will compare the calorie content. The number after each entre is the amount of calories contained in it. The frozen day will be listed first followed by a day of meals made up of non frozen foods.
So in the first example, Ill chose french toast for breakfast (120,) the chicken quesadilla for lunch (220,) and the Margherita pizza for dinner (190.) For a snack, Ive chosen the orange creme bar (90.) And Ill chose the sundae for dessert (130.) So the grand total for this day, filled completely with foods from the frozen line, is 750 calories. Keep in mind that this isnt including the fresh add ins that you chose for yourself.
Now, lets move onto a days worth of meals with non frozen choices. For breakfast, I will chose the granola cereal (160.) For lunch, I chose the fettuccine alfredo (220.) Dinner will be chicken and sausage (190.) The snack would be cheese puffs (150.) And just to show that the frozen foods arent the only great desserts, Ill choose the fudge brownie for dessert (170.) So what is the grand total for a day of non frozen foods? That total works out to be 890 calories.
Now depending on which foods you chose each day, youre going to have a little variation in terms of calories from one day to the next. But, the foods are designed to be very similar in terms of calories and nutrition. And the frozen entres are no exception. So the answer is that the frozen line doesnt contain more calories than the regular foods. Sure, occasionally, you may find a food that has a little more. But you can also find some that have a little less. The idea is that you should be able to choose any food item that you want and still be within a safe calorie total for the day. And this is true regardless of whether youve chosen a frozen or non frozen food. (Source)
